Macalla na hÉireann, the 2019 Comhaltas Concert Tour of Ireland will perform in The Ceolaras Coleman Centre in Gurteen while on this year’s 14 venue tour from October 6-19th 2019.
Sponsored by Bus Éireann this annual Concert Tour Bus features the best of traditional talent drawn from the four Provinces of Ireland. Comhaltas also receives funding from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht for which it is very thankful.
Each year the tour assembles a fine mix of established artistes together with up-and-coming young stars. These are blended together into a fast-moving and exciting show of traditional Irish music, dance and song that appeals to both the connoisseurs and peripheral fans of Irish traditional entertainment. Macalla na hÉireann reflects the breadth and depth of traditional Irish music, dance and song and is produced by local musicians Cian Kearins and Niamh O’ Sullivan.
This year among the impressive lineup of talented musicians, singers and dancers are local musician Síofra Hanley and Sean Nós dancer Eimear Mulvey. Síofra Hanley is a multi-instrumentalist from Paddy Killoran CCÉ and joins the tour this year on harp and vocals. Síofra has been playing traditional music from the age of five and comes heavily decorated with county, provincial, and All Ireland Fleadh successes over the years, recently winning the coveted Senior Harp title in the All Ireland Fleadh in Drogheda 2018. Eimear Mulvey, who was the 2018 Sean Nós dancing champion at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is a local Sean Nós dancer and teacher from Geevagh, Co. Sligo. Eimear is the Public Relations Officer for her local Comhaltas branch ‘Riverstown CCÉ’. Eimear is looking forward to knocking sparks out of the floor in Gurteen on Tuesday the 8th of October!
